WHAT TO EXPECT!
“ This challenge will test and develop resilience, teamwork, and adaptability in appropriately remote and demanding environments.”
Long distance driving – slow travel through wild places on rough, sandy tracks, requiring focus and endurance
Unpredictable conditions – weather, roads, wildlife, and delays mean nature sets the pace
Navigation and decision making – reading the land, using maps, SAT NAV, local knowledge, and trusting leaders
Cooking together – self catered meals, shared responsibility, and making the most of vehicle based kitchens
Daily camp routines – setting up and packing up camp together, building discipline, rhythm, and teamwork
Shared responsibility – looking after vehicles, equipment, and each other throughout the journey
Wildlife encounters – awareness of animal comfort zones and adjusting our behaviour accordingly
Group and social dynamics – living closely together, communicating well, and supporting different personalities
Time away from home – disconnecting from routines, comforts, and regular contact with family and friends
Mental resilience – managing tiredness and low moments, and finding strength in the group
Perspective and reflection – encountering poverty, threatened species awareness, gaining gratitude and a wider worldview
Simple expedition living – fewer comforts, adapting to a slower, and simpler routine, basic washing facilities
Rooftop and ground tents – exposed to the elements, personal space is more limited than usual

Fundraising target
A minimum fundraising target of £1000 is required to take part in this adventure. Wolo will be there to help you every step of the way with ideas and advice on how to reach this target and help them to continue supporting families all over Sussex on their cancer journeys. Why not ask your employer to match fund you?
Wolo Foundation helps families through their cancer journeys by working with their local community to offer practical help and support to make their day-to-day lives easier.
Having recently battled cancer herself, founder Fler Wright, want to be able to help families going through similar experiences. There was a distinct lack of support available to her family due to their circumstances, so they created Wolo to help fill this gap. Wolo currently supports families living in Sussex with children under the age of 16 years. The name WOLO came about as Fler & Justin loved the acronym YOLO (you only live once) and enjoy living their lives with their young family to the full - so they adapted it, and created WOLO - which stands for we only live once.
To date, Wolo have helped families with a huge variety of services. They work closely with their local community to offer families a wealth of services to support them at what is, a very stressful time. Services such as; child care, cleaning, gardening, health and wellbeing therapy sessions (for both adults and children), legal services such as will writing, complimentary therapies to ease the side effects of treatment, and have offered opportunities for relaxation/pampering, memory making by supplying passes to local attractions/pantomimes/events, purchased medical aids - plus much more.
