Statistics show that 1 in 2 people in the UK born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Life is precious - we need to make the most of it - we only live once. Wolo!
We are excited to have partnered with 'Albion in the Community' and their 'Brighter Outlook' project, supporting people with a cancer diagnosis to get active, meet others, and feel good! Anyone with a cancer diagnosis in East Sussex/Brighton & Hove is eligible. Please take a look at their fb page/website to read more about the programme and sign up if you want to give it a go!

Wolo are launching a new HOME MAINTENANCE project, to help with odd jobs around the homes of local families affected by cancer. We are looking for tradesmen/women who are able to help with jobs such as painting, decorating, fixing windows, odd jobs such as putting up shelves etc as well as electrical or plumbing work. Ideally those with availability this year (Government Covid guidelines will strictly adhered to).
If you can help, or are able to donate towards the project we would SO appreciate it! Please share far and wide to help us support these local families and keep them safe and warm this winter. Thank you #wolo #weonlyliveonce #charity #wolofoundation #cancer #covid_19 #homemaintenance #help #local #sussex #funding #donate
117 mile round trip around Sussex this week and meeting lots of the families we are supporting on their cancer journeys.
We are very keen to partner with inspiring businesses/people to help the economy - we will be adding a collab page onto our website and would love to include you if you’re up for it.
Just to clarify, we don’t expect to receive anything for free - we are happy to pay the going rate (although any reduction would help our funds to go further). These families really need our support - its wonderful to help them on their cancer journeys - for many it is a real lifeline. We dont just deliver weekly essentials boxes - we support families in practical ways through diagnosis, treatment and beyond. From physios sessions, to acupuncture, gardening, legal services or cleaning. Services are bespoke to every family. Nothing is too much trouble.
Well that was fun! Thank you so much Sam Walsh for helping us to raise some money, and for the fab tunes. Loved it
Here’s our good friend Neil Laughton sharing his many ‘Wolo moments’ that have seen him travel the globe and break World Records. Life is what you make it. Inspire yourself. We only live once - make the most of every day.
‘Neil is trying very hard but achieving very little’, were the words said by the teacher of award winning entrepreneur, record breaking adventurer and former SAS Officer Neil Laughton! How wrong that assessment was for what Neil had in store!
Neil did not have an easy start in life with his early years being characterised by poverty and failure but with his determination and grit he was able to turn it around and go on to achieve countless ‘firsts’ and prove why he is very deserving of the title of ‘Inspirational speaker!’
This weeks’ interview on ‘Helen Bulkeley Talks with’ is ready to watch NOW on YouTube (link below) and a must watch. Here are just a few topic points I discussed with Neil to get the measure of quite how much he has achieved!
- Served in the UK Special Forces for 12 years
- Completed the ‘Explorers grand slam’ (Climbing the 7 summits and reaching both the north and the South Pole)
- Surviving the ‘worst storm in 100 years’ on Mt Everest
- Safety officer for when Bear Gylls flew a paramotor over Mt Everest (Neil also climbed Mt Everest with Bear Grylls)
- Flying the worlds first road legal car from London to Timbuktu!!
- Founded a construction company which grew to £40 million before being sold to a FTSE 100 company
- First person to circumnavigate the UK and Ireland on a jet ski
- Guinness world records for riding penny farthings with ‘no hands’ and hosting the worlds highest black tie dinner party

'Messages from the Sea' is now available to purchase. All profits donated to @wolofoundation - to help families affected by cancer.
A beautifully crafted book by the amazing CreativeFlorence. Design, Illustration & Scribbles. Narrated by a Turtle who takes a journey around the world meeting sea animals in various seas and oceans (featuring Wolo the Whale). The sea animals leave messages asking for help about the pollution taking over their homes. The story is simple and positive and helps explain that by making changes, we can help save their homes from pollution by looking at our own behaviours with regard to recycling and plastic waste!
The book also has an alphabet theme which adds to the journey throughout the book. All the illustrations are created in mixed media. The design and layout has a fun conversational style. The words and images provide humour which will reach a varied age group. Flo is responsible for the whole creation of this first edition.
Why not buy it as a gift for your own children, or for those you haven't seen in a while?
We are passionate about our message, passionate about raising awareness. Helping families through cancer.

Asda (Brighton Marina)
Our "super human" store manager Darren Evans successfully completing his challenge to cycle and run a total of 106 miles between the stores he has worked in around East Sussex - Crawley, St Leonards, Eastbourne, Brighton and Brighton Marina.
Darren, who is retiring after 36 years, was raising money and awareness for the WOLO Foundation, a charity which offers help and practical advice to families affected by cancer and Sport in Mind - the mental health sports charity that uses sport and physical activity to aid the recovery of people experiencing mental illness and combat suicide. Darren has set up a Just Giving Page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Darren-AsdaLavistaBaby. Everyone at Brighton Marina and the other stores would like to wish Darren and his family all the best for the future.

Many thanks to Marybelle for giving a special lady a lovely new ‘do’ after everything she’s been through lately. Diagnosis, surgery, radiotherapy, a house move and severe fatigue - all in lockdown. Very well deserved!
If anyone local is looking for a comfortable, modern home-from-home salon, please contact them. You won’t be disappointed
This is Darren Evans. He is doing an EPIC challenge on Thursday to mark his retirement from Asda and has chosen to help raise funds for Wolo (fundraising link on post). This morning he received news from an ex-colleague/friend that their young nephew has been diagnosed with a rare type of terminal cancer . 1 in 2 people born after 1960 will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. It can happen to anyone at any time. Wolo Foundation supports families in Sussex in practical ways through their cancer journeys.
